Ontario technicians – this is for you!

Starting fall 2026, colleges across Ontario will be offering Residential Heat Pump Proficiency training to G2 technicians and 313D mechanics. This course requires students to have a minimum of five years' practical experience serving the residential HVAC market.

The training was piloted in 2025 and was well received by participants and instructors. The curriculum was updated to address feedback and to dig deeper into topics such as Low Voltage and Controls, Maintenance and Servicing, and Troubleshooting and Commissioning.

The training is eight weeks long. Each week includes four hours of online learning that can be done whenever it is convenient for the student, and a six hour hands-on lab. Students need to complete 100% of the training to attain the Record of Completion. This training will be offered September/October 2026 and March/April 2027.

HRAI will be offering subsidies to help offset the cost of training.

More information will be shared soon concerning subsidies and which Ontario colleges will be offering the training – stay tuned!

This training is not a certification program and does not confer any legal authorization for trainees to install or service heat pumps.
