Future of Refrigerants Task Team
HRAI formed a Future Refrigerants Task Team in September 2018, to assess the implication of the introduction of flammable refrigerants in Canada on the HVACR industry, with a specific focus on implications over the next five years. The transition to low-GWP refrigerants for air conditioning and, longer term, commercial refrigeration will include alternatives that are flammable and have higher toxicity than those used today. The team will give consideration of potential roles for HRAI in:
- Regulations, codes and standards development or amendment;
- Providing industry training where needed;
- Addressing challenges in refrigerant life cycle management;
- Industry communications and public awareness
The primary focus of refrigerant types is on A3, A2L + low GWP AI fluids.
