Update: December 21, 2022 is Expected Publication Date for Amendment 17

On December 13, 2022, Natural Resources Canada informed HRAI that Amendment 17 to Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations has passed, with an expected publication date of December 21, 2022.  

Amendment 17 will update energy efficiency and testing standards for central air conditioners and central heat pumps to align with the U.S. DOE Appendix M1 test standard, which will come into force on January 1, 2023.  The amendment will also specify 60 energy-using products in order for the Minister to exercise the ministerial regulations authority to maintain harmonization between requirements set out in another jurisdiction (usually the United States).  

HRAI asked NRCan to host a webinar on December 22, 2022 to provide members an in-depth review of Amendment 17.
