Transporting A2Ls? You May Need to Register in Transport Canada Client Identification Database (CID)

A new requirement under Transport Canada Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations to register with its Client Identification Database (CID) is now in place, meant to inform a new national risk-based system to prioritize inspections of dangerous goods. These new requirements will apply to the transportation of A2L refrigerants.

Contractors and wholesalers are advised to visit Transport Canada’s (CID) website and examine the criteria to determine if they meet the criteria for mandatory registration: https://www.tc.canada.ca/en/dangerous-goods/client-identification-database-cid

Exemptions for transportation of quantities of refrigerant under 500 kg or 150 kg may be available under certain circumstances – members may need to review Transport Canada criteria through the registration system.

Transportation of A2L refrigerants may involve a number of new issues – HRAI will provide additional updates on this and other topics on our website: https://www.hrai.ca/refrigerant-transition
