Release of the 2024 Edition of the Ontario Building Code:

On April 10, Ontario announced that the release of the 2024 version of the Ontario Building Code. The updated code has been developed in consultation with key stakeholders including building officials, fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, and the construction industry.

Ontario committed to harmonize the codes with the National Construction Codes, and this has led to the elimination of about 1,730 technical variations between the provincial and national requirements.

The revised code will be presented in a different structure from the previous versions. The regulation itself will be one page long available on E-Laws, referencing the 2020 National Building Code for harmonized sections and the 2024 Ontario Amendment document for provincial differences. The full-length version of the Ontario Building Code will no longer be available on E-Laws.
