Pushing for Smarter Incentives

Across Canada, incentive programs are playing an increasingly important role in advancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions. For the HVACR sector, these programs hold real promise, but only when they are designed with a clear understanding of how our industry operates.
Too often, that has not been the case.
Our members have experienced programs launched without adequate notice, leaving supply chains unprepared and contractors struggling to respond. Others fail to require certified installation, putting system performance and consumer confidence at risk. And many are short-lived or inconsistent, creating disruptive ‘boom-and-bust’ cycles rather than sustained market progress.
These challenges point to a broader issue: without proper design, incentive programs can fall short of their objectives, and in some cases, create unintended consequences for the very industry expected to deliver results.
HRAI is working to change that.
On behalf of our members, we are actively engaging governments and utilities to promote a more effective approach; one grounded in practical experience and industry insight. Our advocacy is focused on five core principles: advance notice for planning, certified installation requirements, meaningful industry involvement in program design, stable program timelines, and open, competitive access for qualified participants.
These principles are simple, but powerful. When applied, they lead to programs that work better
It is important to recognize that this work is driven by our members. Your experience, your expertise, and your willingness to engage are what enable HRAI to advocate effectively and credibly across the country.
As incentive programs continue to shape the future of our industry, HRAI will remain a strong voice at the table; ensuring that those programs are designed to succeed.
Together, we are making a difference.
