Public Review Now Open for new National Standard for Commissioning of Health Care Facilities, CSA Z8

CSA Group has recently published a Public Review edition of a new proposed standard, CSA Z8001, Special requirements for commissioning of health care facilities.

Members will likely be most interested in Clause 5.3, Mechanical systems, which includes clauses on the commissioning of HVAC, refrigeration, and other systems.

This new national standard provides guidelines for commissioning health care facilities in Canada. It is designed to assist in the commissioning of both new facilities and renovations, to ensure that health care systems are properly integrated and functional. The standard defines commissioning as a systematic verification, documentation, and training process applied during all stages of a building’s life, from its design to its functional performance.

Any member of the public can review the draft standard and provide comments, at CSA Group’s Public Review website: https://publicreview.csa.ca/, where it will be necessary to create an account and log in. You can find the standard through the “search by keyword” button, by searching for “Z8001”.

The comment period for this draft standard closes September 29, 2025.
