Project Update: Bridging the Skill Gap for Heat Pump Proficiency

Last June, HRAI announced Bridging the Skills Gap for Heat Pump Proficiency, a project, jointly funded by NRCan and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

In the fall, we conducted an online Skill Technical Assessment to identify gaps and weaknesses in the technical skills necessary to competently and safely install, service and maintain heat pumps.

The data reveals some surprising stats. It also clearly indicated areas where additional training is needed. HRAI is preparing a report that will be released in early 2025.

HRAI is also working with colleges across Ontario to develop training (Phase II) to address the gaps identified from the Skills Technical Assessment.

Phase III of the project will see technicians completing the training developed in Phase II. This will unfold in March/April of 2025. If you live and work in Ontario and are interested in taking the training this Spring or would like your employees to be trained, please contact Andrew Ferguson at HRAI, aferguson@hrai.ca, 905-602-4700 x 248.
