Ontario NDP MPPs ask Government to Accept Air Conditioning as Human Right

This week, Ontario NDP MPPs Kristyn Wong-Tam and Jessica Bell probed the provincial government on whether it will accept the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal’s recent declaration that air conditioning during heat waves should be treated as a human right, especially for vulnerable people.

During Question Period, MPP Bell posed the question to the Government, asking if it would listen to the Ontario Human Rights Commission by making air conditioning a vital service, and setting a maximum temperature for homes.  Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark responded by saying that his Ministry will consider it when looks at issues regarding the Residential Tenancies Act.

HRAI will continue to follow this story and is committed to keeping our members informed of important issues affecting the HVACR industry in Ontario.
