NRCan Launches New Funding Program for Energy Efficiency and Emissions Reductions Operations in Indu
According to the news release, “the program will provide up to $20 million per proposal in [cost-shared] financial assistance for industrial facilities to help them maximize energy efficiency and reduce emissions in their operations.”
The funding program is divided into two tracks.
Under Track 1: Energy Efficiency Solutions, NRCan will offer financial assistance to provincial and territorial governments, utilities, not-for-profit organizations, Indigenous organizations, training institutes, and industry associations “that have significant capacity, experience, and well-established industrial networks at a regional or a pan-Canadian level.”
Under Track 2: Industrial Facility Track, the program will offer financial assistance to Canadian manufacturers “in any industrial sector … regardless of the size of the facilities.” Further details, including the application process and the maximum amount offered to eligible recipients will be disclosed when track 2 launches Spring 2023.
Eligible activities include:

Energy assessments and audits.

Energy managers.
-
Energy management systems.
-
Strategic Energy Management.
-
Capital investments.
-
License fees, data purchases, certification costs, regulatory compliance and inspection costs, construction insurance, and permits.

Capital expenditures toward retrofitting or upgrading existing facilities, buildings or infrastructure that improve energy efficiency.

Overhead expenditures (for the further distribution of funds) may be included in the total costs up to 15% of eligible expenditures.
The deadline for submitting a proposal under track 1 is March 31, 2023.
