Now Playing - Fair Isn’t Always Equal: The Benefits of a Disability-Inclusive Workplace
The presentation, Fair Isn’t Always Equal: How Workplaces Create Unintended Barriers for People Who Have a Disability, was hosted by Liz Gosse, Director of Corporate Engagement and Training for the Ontario Corporate Training Centre (OCTC). The OCTC is a new project from ODEN designed to “empower business with the tools, knowledge, resources, and confidence needed to embrace disability-inclusive hiring and foster diverse workplaces.”
Throughout the interactive webinar, Gosse explained how recruiting skilled workers from the province’s disability talent pool can give companies access to qualified candidates while strengthening their recruitment efforts and benefiting existing employees and the business as a whole. She also examined common barriers people with disabilities encounter in the workplace and how employers can work to overcome them.
“A lot of workplace systems aren’t designed with disability in mind, and that can create barriers,” she said. “The goal today is to help you start learning where those barriers show up and how you can begin to remove them with an equity-based approach.”
The webinar also provided information on how the OCTC project can support HVACR employers on their disability inclusion journey, including a QR code and link for participants to connect with an ODEN representative, Monica Henderson, for further support.
