NEW PROGRAM ALERT – IESO to Offer Free Heat Pumps to Income-Eligible Households in Ontario

This week the IESO added cold climate air source heat pumps (ASHP) as an eligible measure to the Save on Energy --Energy Affordability Program (EAP). After consultation with HRAI and its members, where they were able to provide input and contributions to the design of this program, the IESO has released the new offering of ASHPs to income-eligible households.

The IESO’s 2021-2024 Conservation and Demand Management Mid-Term Review identified adding ASHPs in the EAP as the best way to improve energy savings to those most in need.

Benefits of ASHP into the EAP include:

  • The ASHP is directly installed by qualified professionals and at no time will the participant be out of pocket for home energy audit or installation costs.
  •  An ASHP can help EAP participants reduce electricity consumption and lower energy costs, make their homes more comfortable, and increase their homes’ value.
  • The ASHP is a low-carbon technology for space heating that will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The IESO delivers EAP in collaboration with Enbridge Gas’ Home Winterproofing Program. More information is available here Air Source Heat Pumps | Save on Energy.
