Industry Coalition Advocates for Adjustments to Federal Programs
Last week, HRAI joined a number of other industry associations in a letter to federal Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson advising on some critical adjustments needed for federal programs to reach their net zero targets.
While applauding the federal government’s net-zero vision, the associations recommended that programs like Greener Homes need to be reinforced with significant financial incentives and improvements to the current system that will encourage the industry to make changes to support Canadians striving to reach net-zero.
Recommendations included:
-
Increasing funding to encourage deep retrofits
-
Add funding for emergency (“no heat”) replacement of heating systems
-
Simplifying current too-complex funding programs
-
Expanding the scope of heat pump programs (like OHPA) to include building envelope measures
