Hydrogen Heating Webinar

On December 13th HRAI hosted a webinar focused the use of hydrogen as a fuel source for heating homes and buildings in Canada. The session was supported by the Hydrogen Heating Network (Hhn) and included speakers from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Bosch Thermotechnology, as well as Hhn.

The webinar was held at the request of HRAI’s Emerging Trends Committee, which has the responsibility of exploring emerging trends that may be of interest to the HRAI membership and making appropriate recommendations for action to the HRAI Board.

Hydrogen is seen by many as an emerging and important source of alternative fuel. Gas utilities are positioning to make hydrogen readily available and some manufacturers are testing products that will work not only with hydrogen/NG blends but also capable of running on 100% hydrogen.

The webinar included reports from Rahil Khan, Deputy Director of Natural Gas at NRCan and John Lau, Policy Analyst at NRCan on NRCan’s hydrogen strategy as well as an assessment of the technical potential for hydrogen to work with HVAC products, provided by Kyle Murray and James Abraham from Bosch Thermotechnology.  Pete Koepfgen, President of the Hydrogen Heating Network, provided an overview of the state of the hydrogen heating industry in general.
