HVACR Industry Launches 2025 Federal Election Platform:
Calling for Action on Trade, Climate, and Workforce Resilience
OTTAWA (April 10, 2025) – With the federal election approaching, the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) has released its 2025 Election Platform, urging all political parties to recognize the critical role the HVACR industry plays in Canadian life and to take bold action to address the challenges facing the sector.
The platform emphasizes the need for thoughtful and strategic leadership on key issues, including international trade, workforce readiness, and climate resilience. In light of potential new U.S. tariffs, HRAI is calling on the government of Canada to negotiate vigorously to preserve cross border trade and to exempt essential HVACR products from any retaliatory measures. The industry underscores the vital role its products and services play in maintaining health, comfort, and safety in homes, hospitals, schools, and workplaces across Canada.
The document raises urgent concerns about the industry’s labour force. With an aging workforce and growing demand for new technologies like heat pumps, HRAI is advocating for federal investment to support retraining and upskilling. Without strategic intervention, the shortage of qualified workers will undermine the country's climate goals and drive-up costs for consumers.
HRAI’s platform highlights the growing public demand for healthier indoor environments. The Institute is calling on the federal government to help establish clear standards for indoor air quality and to work with industry experts on public education and professional certification programs to guide responsible investment in ventilation, filtration and air quality upgrades.
