HRAI Pushes for Green Building Strategy through Efficiency Canada Alliance
HRAI recently endorsed an Efficiency Canada submission to the federal government pushing for a strong Canada Green Building Strategy through various means.
In its original submission, Efficiency Canada called for mandatory building performance standards, timelines related to heating transition regulations, and the inclusion of low-income households in efficiency programming. The letter last week to Ministers Wilkinson, Guilbeault, Qualtrough, O’Regan and LeBlanc reiterated four key points on which government should move, for a powerful and actionable strategy:
-
Now is the time to make bold and significant moves to decarbonize buildings, through timely regulation.
-
Industry is ready to support the transition and ready to work together with the Government of Canada to scale up workforce development of skilled trades.
-
The Government of Canada must work in concert with provincial, municipal and Indigenous governments to make the Canada Green Buildings Strategy effective.
-
The Canada Green Buildings Strategy cannot leave any Canadian behind.
Policy Options also recently published Brendan Haley’s article sharing lessons from other jurisdictions on regulating fossil-fueled heating, and rationale for its importance.
