HRAI Engages with Ontario MPPs in Annual “Queen’s Park Day”
On March 2nd and during the week following, HRAI and various partner organizations are meeting virtually with Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) at Queen’s Park to discuss issues affecting the HVACR industry and Ontarians. Building on HRAI’s recent Pre-Budget Submission, the discussions focused on a range of topics, including the following issues:
- Indoor Air Quality and Ventilation: working with the industry to build the workforce of IAQ professionals while communicating to Ontarians about the health benefits of investing in improved indoor air quality (IAQ), relying on proven technologies and
best practices.
- Workforce Development: Securing funding towards supporting an HVACR workforce development plan that ensures an adequate supply of appropriately qualified industry personnel to meet the emerging needs resulting from the shift to a low carbon economy.
- Economic Recovery: Investing in a jointly funded federal and provincial building energy retrofit program that will create jobs, reduce carbon and increase energy efficiency.
More than 75 volunteers made themselves available for these meetings. HRAI’s initiative was supported by members of ASHRAE, Women in HVACR, the Residential Heating and Ventilation Contractors Association (RHVCA), the Ontario Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors (ORAC), Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) and the Ontario Geothermal Association (OGA). As of this writing, more than 14 meetings were scheduled with MPPs and Ministers, with more in the works.
Among the more notable meetings was one with Ontario Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, which included and entirely female contingent of industry representatives!
The meetings included a “leave-behind” summary of issues and an invitation for elected officials to further engage with industry by taking a tour with members at the upcoming CMPX show.
