HRAI Brought Industry Experts Together for A2L Transition Updates on December 3
On Tuesday, December 3, HRAI brought a number of industry experts together for a webinar providing updates on Canada’s Transition to A2L Refrigerants.
AHRI’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, Samantha Slater walked members through recent changes to US regulations, changes to come before the end of the Biden Administration, and those expected from the incoming Trump administration.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Head of Ozone layer protection programs, Michel Gauvin, shared with members an overview of the regulatory framework behind the A2L transition, upcoming key transition dates, noting the Essential Purpose Permit that members may use to obtain temporary permission for the import or manufacture of products not meeting the January 1, 2025 deadline for high-GWP chillers.
Mitsubishi Electric Sales Canada’s Director – Products & Services, HVAC Division, Pushpinder Rana reviewed key issues facing manufacturers trying to keep up with requirements in both Canada and the United States, noting as well a number of changes made in the 2023 edition of CSA B52, Mechanical refrigeration code.
HRAI staff delivered additional updates on important topics related to refrigerant transition. Regulatory Affairs Director Perry Chao gave provincial adoption of CSA B52:23, amd Technical Analyst Gautham Shine previewed brochures on A2L storage that will be available on the HRAI website.
HRAI Consultant Ian McTeer shared important information on Transport Canada requirements for the transportation of refrigerant cylinders that will be available through the HRAI website.
