HRAI Advocates for Constructive Partnership at BC Legislature Meetings

On April 28th, a small but motivated contingent of HRAI volunteers joined the GR team in some highly productive meetings with elected representatives at the BC Legislature.  The delegation engaged with key leaders from the governing NDP, the opposition Conservatives, and the Green Party, emphasizing the critical role of the HVACR industry in the province's economy and its potential to foster environmental sustainability.

The theme for the day was “partnership,” with HRAI emphasizing the point on several important issues that better outcomes would have been, and can still be, achieved if and when government understands that working with industry is the right approach. The key issues discussed over the day included: investment in trades training and re-skilling for the sector; including the industry more pro-actively in discussions about incentive program design; and making revisions to Bill 4 (the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Amendment Act) to identify better ways to address the scourge of door-to-door sales.  A summary of key messages can be found HERE.

The day was marked by a series of high-profile meetings, including a breakfast meeting with the NDP Caucus, which included discussions with: the Hon Lisa Beare, Minister of Education; the Hon. Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions; the Hon. Josie Osborne, Minister of Health; the Hon. Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs; the Hon. Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture and Food; the Hon. Mike Farnworth, Minister of Transportation and Transit; the Hon. Terry Yung, Minister of State for Community Safety and Integrated Services; and the Hon. Kelly Greene, Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.

A lively meeting was also held with the Conservative Party caucus, which included 18 MLAs and all the relevant critics.

Representing HRAI were industry volunteers Leon Hawkins from Ainsworth and Jeff Blair of Barclay Sales, John Fekete and Martin Luymes from HRAI and Sajjid Lakhani and Zacharie Greenfield of Impact Public Affairs.  HRAI extends its deepest gratitude to all volunteers and participants for an impactful day.
