Bulletin to Wholesalers from Refrigerant Management Canada
July 2024
Refrigerant from Outside Industry is subject to User Fee of $30.00/kg
This notice is for all Wholesalers participating in the RMC Program:
Please note that only refrigerants from the stationary HVACR refrigeration and air conditioning industry and equipment are eligible to be collected and returned under the RMC Program at no charge.
This bulletin is a reminder that RMC accepts refrigerants from the appliance and automotive industries (mobile air conditioning) on a user fee basis only. Under no circumstances should appliance or automotive refrigerant be returned to a Wholesaler ‘free of charge.’ These refrigerants are not from the HVACR industry and not included in the RMC Environmental Levy. Therefore, all refrigerants from outside industry are subject to the RMC User Fee and is payable directly to Refrigerant Management Canada.
Additionally, RMC does not accept refrigerant that is contaminated with products such as Duracool or RedTek from the automotive industry as they are a hydrocarbon and contain propane. RMC’s disposal process is performed by incineration, therefore, products containing propane can’t be accepted. If any is detected once the cylinder is received at one of our collection service providers, the cylinder will be returned to the customer at their expense.
Please ensure your customers are aware that refrigerant from the appliance and automotive industry is subject to an RMC User Fee disposal charge of $30.00/kilogram.
