Refrigerant Management Canada Increases RMC User Fee Effective June 1, 2024
Please be advised that Refrigerant Management Canada (RMC) reports that the fee for accepting refrigerant from outside of the HVACR industry into the program will be changing.
Effective June 1, 2024, the fee will be $30.00/kilogram for all refrigerants entering the RMC program for destruction that originate from:
Please note that no appliance or automotive refrigerant may be returned to a wholesaler and/or
Collection Service Provider “free of charge”. Refrigerants from outside the HVACR industry are not supported by the environmental levy. All refrigerants from these industries are subject to a “user
fee”.
The Outside Industry User Fee increase was necessary as the costs for the collection, transportation and disposal of surplus refrigerants have risen substantially. The User Fee increase was approved by the RMC Board on March 5, 2024. The last increase was in July 2021.
Any of your customers who primarily deal with the appliance or automotive industry, should be made aware that any refrigerant from these industries will be subject to this User Fee charge at the new rate effective June 1, 2024 – payable to RMC.
Prior to Wholesalers accepting refrigerant originating outside of the HVACR industry, please ensure they have received an RMC Authorization number assigned for their cylinders. If not, please have your customers contact Nancy Larsen, Refrigerant Management Canada Program Coordinator at 1 (800) 267-2231 ext. 245 or nlarsen@hrai.ca. All outside-industry returns must be labelled with an RMC Authorization number which can only be obtained from RMC once payment for disposal has been completed or arranged and the refrigerant authorized to go into the program.
