BC government announces expansion of CleanBC Energy Savings Program
On Wednesday, Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, announced changes to the CleanBC Energy Savings Program.
First launched in June 2024, the CleanBC Energy Savings Program is a joint initiative between the province, the federal government, and BC Hydro, and initially offered rebates to income-qualified single-family households.
Wednesday's announcement revealed that the program will be expanded to include those living in individual suites in multi-unit residential buildings beginning in mid-2025. Those who qualify under this expansion could be eligible for up to $5,500 for a ductless mini-split heat pump.
The province also plans to expand the Energy Conservation Assistance Program, in partnership with FortisBC and BC Hydro, to cover installation costs for households in the lowest income segment. The expansion follows the 2024 Cooperation and Responsible Government accord between the NDP and the BC Green Caucus, which commits the government to contribute $50 million per year toward electric heat pumps while ensuring they are made available to low—and moderate-income households. The province projects that up to 8,300 rebates will be given to British Columbians over the next two years.
HRAI is monitoring the situation closely.
