Amendment 18 to Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations: Comment Period Closes August 31, 2024
On June 22, 2024, Amendment 18 of Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations was pre-published, initiating a 70-day consultation period, ending August 31, 2024.
Interested members, and all members of the public, are invited to review the draft Amendments and provide comments through the Canada Gazette, Part I website.
Early submissions are encouraged to allow for the early analysis of proposed changes by Natural Resources Canada.
The regulatory changes will expand the scope of some currently regulated products, and introduce or update energy efficiency and testing standards for many types of equipment, including:
- Room air conditioners (electric, with cooling capacity of 10.55 kW or less)
- Large air conditioners (between 19 kW and 223 kW)
- Single package central air conditioners (less than 19 kW)
- Split system central air conditioners (air-source, less than 19 kW)
- Portable air conditioners (less than 19 kW)
- Large heat pumps (between 19 and 223 kW)
- Single package central heat pumps (less than 19 kW)
- Split system central heat pumps (less than 19 kW)
- Gas furnaces
The changes will also incorporate the proposed Testing Standard and Energy Efficiency Standards for Room Air Conditioners, which can be reviewed on Natural Resources Canada’s Amendment 18 website.
