Alberta Trade Contractors Council Transitions from a “Coalition” to a “Council”

On February 3, 2022, representatives of the ten association members of the Alberta Trade Contractors Council held their first meeting as a Council board of directors. Operating under a Memorandum of Agreement since January 2014 the Coalition formalized its relationship as a not-for-profit society in late 2021 requiring the adopted “Council” as its formal name.

Terry Milot, Vice President, Chemco Ltd, representing the Electrical Contractors Association of Alberta was elected as the Council’s first Chairman. Mark Schendel, SMC 2.0 Ltd, representing the Mechanical Contractors Association of Alberta was elected Vice Chair, and, completing the executive positions,  Bryan Neubeker, Saint-Gobain, representing, Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association, was also elected Vice Chair. Each member association appoints an Alberta contractor member (or their proxy) to the council board as their voting representative.

With his election as Chairman of the Council, Milot commented, “Since we signed the original MOA in 2014, we have been writing the preface to what has the potential to be a great story. We are now at the beginning of Chapter 1, where the ATCC expects to deliver an exciting opening scene.  While there is still much work and dedication needed to achieve the Council’s immediate priorities for prompt payment legislation and new structure under the STAE act, we are confident that Trade Contractors can deliver on these projects.”

With the election of a new executive, the ATCC will also take this opportunity to recognize the significant contributions of Tim Padfield, Padcar Mechanical and Karen Rutherford, Executive Director, ARCA, both of whom held the position of Vice Chair with ATCC for the past 3 years. “While both of these individuals chose to step aside to make room to grow the ATCC executive,” notes Milot, “Their contribution through leadership and depth of knowledge has been instrumental in getting the ATCC to its current respected position within industry. We look forward to their continued participation to see current ATCC priority initiatives through to completion.”

The Alberta Trade Contractors Council is the trade contractor’s voice on construction industry issues, committed to continual improvement across the industry and delivering solution-based value to its members. The ten members of the council represent a direct membership of over 3000 trade contractors, both union and open shop, who employ more than 50,000 skilled trades across the province.
