Alberta’s ESB Initiative Meets Supply Chain Issues with Program Extension to Sept 2023!

Alberta’s ESB Program is pleased to share that the project completion deadline for the Energy Savings for Business (ESB) program has been extended until September 30, 2023. This means that Albertan’s have additional time to submit projects for pre-approval and completion. Applications continue to be reviewed on a first come, first served basis; the faster an allocation is submitted and completed, the faster incentives are reserved.

Over the past six months, ESB has heard from participants and contractors about supply chain delays related to backed-up warehouses, a lack of shipping containers, and staff shortages, making it difficult to complete projects on schedule. While there are signs that these delays are subsiding, the extension to the project completion deadline will provide flexibility to participants looking to complete new or existing projects.

As a reminder, all new applications will receive a default completion deadline of six months. Larger and more complex projects may request an extension until September 30, 2023. Longer project completion timelines will be considered on a case-by-case basis for new applications. For any preapproved projects, ESB will consider short extensions on a case-by-case basis if more time is needed.

If an extension is required to complete the project, applicants will need to submit a Change Request to ERA for approval. Any approved deadline extensions will also be clearly shown on the Application Approval Form. Please see the Program Guidebook (Section 5) or the Change Request Instructions for more information.
