HVAC EnerGuide Program
The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), on behalf of manufacturers and importers of HVAC products has maintained an industry managed energy efficiency HVAC product rating program since 1996 which fully meets the intent of the regulations under Canada’s Federal Energy Efficiency Act. Under an agreement with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and HRAI, this intent is met by manufacturers and importers of specified HVAC products through an HVAC EnerGuide Program of providing, on product literature, an EnerGuide rating scale that states the energy efficiency of products (air conditioners, heat pumps, gas and oil-fired furnaces).
The goal of the HVAC EnerGuide program is to maintain or increase the overall market penetration of products having a higher energy efficiency than the minimum specified in the regulations by ensuring that the industry makes available to the consumer all of the information necessary to make an informed decision on cost implications of the energy of the HVAC product.
HRAI on behalf of the industry summarizes statistical information and provides copies of product literature containing the EnerGuide rating scale to NRCan in its capacity as the regulator. The EnerGuide rating scales are revised periodically to remain current with product offerings in the marketplace.
